Should I Have a Second Shooter at My Wedding?

When you’re planning your Calgary wedding, photography is one of those things you know you can’t cut corners on. These are the photos you’ll look back on forever. But here’s the thing most couples don’t realize until after the day is done: having a second shooter can make all the difference.

Think of it like this. While I’m with you, catching your vows, your first kiss, and the big must-have shots, a second shooter is free to capture all the little moments happening at the same time. The teary hug your mom shares with your grandma, your best friend’s laugh during speeches, your guests’ reactions to your entrance. All those things you don’t always get to see when you have only one photographer.

It also means variety. Two photographers means two perspectives, and twice the coverage. While I’m getting that wide shot of you walking down the aisle, my second shooter can focus on your partner’s face as they see you for the first time. During portraits, one of us can be capturing the classic, posed images, while the other grabs the fun candids happening on the sidelines.

Logistically, a second shooter makes the day smoother too. We can be in two places at once. While I’m with you getting ready, the second shooter can be with your partner, making sure both of your stories are told equally. No running back and forth, no rushing.

The best part? You’ll end up with a gallery that feels layered, dynamic, and complete. It’s not just a highlight reel of your day, it’s the full story, start to finish, from multiple points of view.

At the end of it all, having a second shooter means peace of mind. Nothing gets missed, your day gets documented from every angle, and you can focus on actually living it.

Quick Benefits of a Second Shooter:

  • More guest reactions and candid moments captured

  • Multiple angles of the same moment

  • Coverage of both partners getting ready

  • Smoother timeline with two photographers in different places

  • A richer, more complete gallery that tells your full story

So if you’re all about candids and still debating it, trust me, a second shooter is one of those investments you’ll never regret.

I respectfully acknowledge that my studio in Calgary is located on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 nations, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani First Nations), the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (comprising the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations).

This land is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. I honor and recognize the deep connection that Indigenous peoples have to this land and their ongoing contributions to the community and culture in this region.

With gratitude, I work and create on this beautiful land.
